Modern Traditional Office - The Adored Abode

Today’s the day! It’s week 6 of the One Room Challenge – which means it’s reveal day!! If you missed the first weeks you can catch up on them here: week 1week 2week 3, week 4, and week 5!

If you are new to the blog, welcome! I am a financial auditor by day and started this blog to pursue my passion of design, renovation, and all things home. We bought our house two and half years ago and are slowly renovating it room by room.

We overhauled an upstairs bedroom that we transformed into an office for this challenge. We started with a room full of boxes housing office supplies, craft supplies, and random décor.

All sources are at the bottom of this post!

I wanted to start off would a few before pictures.

Office Before - The Adored Abode

This is how the room looked when we moved in. Pretty bland, aside from the burnt orange carpet and spastic dog.

Over the spring and summer we had our popcorn ceilings scraped and finished to flat and we had hardwood floors installed. Then we installed brand new chunky trim. This is how the room sat for a few months before I decided it was time to make myself a designated work space. I knew this room would be the perfect candidate (this is one of 3 bedrooms we have upstairs).

Now for how the room looks today!

I divided the room into to areas: a craft table area and a desk area. I know I am going to be spending A LOT of time in this room. Working on the blog and doing projects and crafts. I never dreamed I would have a whole room dedicated to doing the things I love.

My goal is to continue to grow the blog and hopefully venture into remodeling and design services!! This office is now the perfect space to do that. I added two DIY pin-boards (tutorial to come!) as a place to keep all of my current inspiration: whether it is a quote, a card, wallpaper samples, fabric swatches, paint chips, magazine clippings… you name it and it will probably be on the board. I used to do this as a kid and I am such a tactile person that I thought why not make a pretty grown-up version?! I am loving it so far.

In the closet we installed a new Ikea closet system (again – tutorial to come!) to better utilize all of the space and provide a place to store all of my extra decor (I love to switch things up and have small stash to choose from rather than buying new all the time!), wrapping supplies, camera equipment, and other  office related items.

Next to the closet I added a cabinet we used in our hold house as a bar cabinet, but since we have a built in wet bar in the living room I knew I could repurpose and repaint it for a different use (again – tutorial to come – there is a theme here)! I scored this cabinet for $30 thrifting a few years ago. Nathan really questioned the decision initially when he saw the state of it, but now that it is refinished I think it is beautiful and a perfect addition to the office.

I am using the cabinet to store the printer, shredder, office paper supplies. I added some of our favorite books and knickknacks to the top shelves. While this is a little busier than how I typically style shelf I like that is shows off things we love, while being very functional.

There you have it. Our new office that I am very smitten with. Hope you enjoyed the tour!
