Fall One Room Challenge – Week 3: Changing Plans

Modern Traditional Office Mood Board - The Adored Abode

It’s week two of the One Room Challenge. If you missed the first two weeks you can catch up on the first week here and the second week here!

If you are new to the blog, welcome! I am a financial auditor by day and started this blog to pursue my passion of design, renovation, and all things home. We bought our house two and half years ago and are slowly renovating it room by room.

We are overhauling an upstairs bedroom that we are transforming into an office for this challenge. We started with a room full of boxes housing office supplies, craft supplies, and random décor. This past week we completely emptied the space, so it is ready to be transformed.

Spoiler alert: I have made almost 0 progress this week. Womp. Womp.

The one thing I did manage to do put one coat of paint on the baseboards, doors, and window and door casings. That’s it. This week got away from me quickly!

However, I have decided to change plans for part of the office.

This was the initial design plan (option A).

These are the changes I am thinking of making in the plan (option B). I think instead of having a leather reading/relaxing type chair with a side table I would rather have a small table with chairs to use as a craft area. That way the desk space can be used solely as computer space and I can have all of my messy crafts done on one table. The thing is, I have all the furniture for both the reading chair set up and table/chair set up… so I’m thinking I may try both in the space and see which I like better! Nathan is going to be thrilled with that. The only thing I need to purchase if we use the table set up is the pendant light. We don’t have an overhead light in this room, so I think having a swag plug-in pendant light on the ceiling would be a nice option, without having to do any electrical work!

However, I still love the idea of having a nice comfy chair in the office. So I think either option would work really well for us. What do you guys think – should I go with option A or B? Help me decide!! I love them both for different reasons.

Here’s everything we have left to get the space completed (I keep adding things to the list every week 😊 ):

  • clean everything out of the room/organize/donate unused items
  • prime: window and door casings
  • paint: walls, baseboards, closet, and closet doors
  • remove and patch outdated intercom system
  • replace electric outlets and plugs
  • wallpaper the closet (leftover material we have from a previous project)
  • install Ikea closet organizing system (leftover material we have from a previous project)
  • order and install a window covering
  • order a pendant light (??)
  • order a rug
  • order a desk chair
  • DIY a giant mood board/pinboard
  • makeover existing filing cabinet (paint & hardware)
  • paint storage cabinet
  • hang art
  • organize, decorate and style the space!

There’s a lot to do for this space, but hopefully we can knock a good chunk out this weekend! I’ll be back with weekly updates for each of the next 3 weeks, but in the meantime be sure to check out the other participants here. As always, I would love for you to follow along as we make over this space! Follow along on Instagram for more updates along the way!
