Modern Traditional Office - The Adored Abode

Have you ever wanted to create a relaxing space all for yourself? Someplace you want to go when you need to get away? Today I am sharing some tips for how you can create a relaxing space, a place where you want to spend more time that just “working” time, but also a place that is inviting to work in as well.

This post is a collaboration with Wayfair. All thoughts, content, and opinions are my own. See my disclosures here.

Wayfair has a spring She Shed campaign to encourage you to create a sanctuary to call your own, whether it’s an office, a place to relax, or both! I am thrilled to share my picks for the campaign to inspire you to create your own dedicated space! Your space doesn’t have to incorporate a shed, but if you have the outdoor space it would be a fun addition.

I chose to design a relaxing and inviting workspace.

Last fall I completed an office make-over. It is a space I really, truly love to spend time in and enjoy, however, it was not meant as just a space for myself. Nathan and I share the office, though I do use it more. While, it is a very relaxing and inviting work environment for myself, I would have approached it a bit differently if I was designing it just for myself!

Below are some ideas I would incorporate if I were creative a relaxing workspace all for myself.

Modern Traditional Office - The Adored Abode

Cozy Rug

A pretty and cozy rug underfoot is a great way to add texture to any space. Whether it’s a space for relaxing, spending time with friends, or getting some work done a rug is a great way to any room.

Comfortable Office Chair

A comfortable and chic office chair makes spending time at your desk much more enjoyable. This is actually the chair I used in our office make-over and can say I really, truly love it!

Simple Desk

A simple and modern desk blends well with many styles and is a great piece to add to any room where you want to carve out a workspace for yourself.

Structural Lamp

Lamps don’t have to be boring. This lamp will add texture and interest whether it’s on your nightstand, desk, or an end table in your living room. It’s the perfect way to add a relaxing glow to your favorite space.

Inviting Accent Chair

A cozy accent chair is a great addition to any room. It can be a spot to read a book, chat with a friend, or just relax.

Simple & Unique Side Table

Whether it’s next to your sofa or an accent chair, a small side table is the perfect spot for a small lamp and a place to set your beverage.

Soft Throw Blanket

If you like the extra coziness a blanket brings a soft knit throw is a must draped on the sofa or in a basket ready for use. Plus, a throw is a great way to add a pop of color and is easy to swap out depending on the seasons. This pretty light blue is perfect for spring time.

Neutral Abstract Art

I love to mix abstract art with more traditional art and personal photos to create a balanced mix in each room. This abstract art with its calming vibe would be the perfect addition to an office or bedroom.

Modern Wall Sconces

Lighting is so important for creating an inviting and relaxing environment. Having multiple lighting sources in each room is a wonderful way to set the mood as you see fit. These fun, modern sconces would be perfect paired with a modern or traditional overhead light.

Elegant White Curtains

Window treatments can really help define and soften a room. I tend to stick with neutral window treatments like these pretty white curtains, using curtain clips for extra dimension. Remember to hang your curtains a bit higher and wider than the window itself – it will help make your window appear larger and draw your eye up!

Textured Pouf

A soft pouf is a great addition to any room with seating. It can be used as a footstool, extra seating when you have guests, or a coffee table (the option I chose for my living room). You can add a tray for a place to set drinks and décor on if you choose to use the ottoman as a coffee table like I did.

Wooden Tray

A good tray is one of my favorite décor items! It can be used to corral items on a coffee table, serving food or beverages, or as a centerpiece on your dining table. There are so many options! A pretty wood tray will always be classic in my opinion.

Gold Bookshelf

A bookshelf is the perfect way to display your favorite décor items, books, and can even double as hidden storage when you mix in pretty boxes and baskets to disguise items on the shelves. I try to have a bookshelf in almost every room because they are so versatile!

Round Mirror

Adding a mirror to your wall is a wonderful way to bounce light around. I love to add mirrors to unexpected places, like an office to make the room feel larger and brighter.

Sanctuary Shed

A cute shed to create a space all your own is such a dream! I would create a office space where I could get out of the house and spend a little time by myself, working on things that I love doing like my blog and photography. My ideal backyard on a little land in the country would have plenty of room.

I hope these ideas inspire you to carve out a little (or big!) space to call your own. A place to relax and spend time focusing on things you love.

The table below is added for your convenience.
