Bissell Cordless Vacuum Review - The Adored Abode

We are big time vacuum users in our house. Between 2 dogs and 3 people (including a toddler) we find we need to vacuum multiple times per week to keep our house from really accumulating hair and dirt. We bought a Bissell cordless vacuum a few years ago because we were attracted to the convenience of not having to move a the cord from outlet to outlet to reach all the nooks and crannies in our house. After a few years of use and hundreds of vacuum sessions below is our honest review of our Bissell cordless vacuum.

Bissell Cordless Review - The Adored Abode

Battery Life (8/10)

The Bissell website advertises up to 50 minutes of vacuum time, which we think is pretty accurate. We tend to get enough battery life to vacuum our entire first floor and we can frequently still have just enough battery left to get our upstairs vacuumed as well. We can usually get a little longer if we use the lower suction mode for hard flooring. We have no complaints with battery life, however, one thing to note is if you run the battery all the way down prior to finishing a vacuum session it does take a while to recharge enough to finish the job.

Suction (7/10)

We find the suction on this vacuum to be good. All attachments function as we would expect them to and any time we run into clogs the vacuum is easy to clean out. We have noticed using the wand without attachments to vacuum along baseboards to be a little lackluster.

Canister Size (7/10)

We knew one of the tradeoffs to a lightweight, cordless stick vacuum was the canister would be smaller. We normally have to empty the canister 1 per vacuum session, maybe 2 if things are really dirty. Emptying the canister is simple so the small canister tradeoff is worth it for the lightweight performance.

Surface by surface performance (5/10)

We’ve used this vacuum on hardwood floors, tile, low pile area rugs and a higher pile area rug. We find the LED lights on the vacuum make this a great tool for hard surfaces, because all dirt and dog hair is highlighted (almost a little more than we would like, but not in a bad way). We get decent performance on low pile area rugs, but some dog hair tends to be left behind. We normally don’t use this on our higher pile rug for that very reason. We find it’s difficult to push against the pile direction of the rug and even though the vacuum has good suction, it doesn’t pick up things on our higher pile rugs well.

One other surface we don’t love to use this vacuum on is our upholstered furniture. The upholstery attachment seems to leave behind a lot of dog hair. We will use our upright vacuum cleaner with an upholstery attachment for this.

Durability (6/10)

We’ve had 2 of these vacuum now. The first one we bought the hose cracked after a few months of use, resulting in lost suction. Despite being annoyed that the vacuum broke so soon after buying it, our experience with Bissell customer service couldn’t have been better. We sent a few pictures of the cracked hose and Bissell quickly sent a brand new vacuum. We haven’t had any issues with the second vacuum, which we’ve now had over a year.

Ease of use (10/10)

We have been impressed with the ease and convenience this vacuum offers. Its so easy to pull out and quickly pick up dog hair and dirt we have been using this in place of our broom most days. Our frequency of vacuuming has increased so much since we bought this vacuum! Getting out the larger, plug in vacuum feels like a chore, but this lightweight, cordless vacuum is so easy to use.

Would we buy again?

YES! We would buy this vacuum again. We now know how it works best and understand some of the limitations. It’s amazing on tile and hardwood floors. It’s so quick and easy to use we oven use it in place of our broom. If we need a deep clean on rugs we get out our upright vacuum. If you are primarily vacuuming hard surfaces we would give our Bissell Cordless vacuum two thumbs up.
