Playroom Reveal

Playroom - The Adored Abode

Last fall I set out to make Nathan’s office on our main level into a playroom! Nathan recently took a new job and is now working in the office most of the time, so we felt it made sense to swap the room to a main level playroom instead. Now the playroom is finished and we are so happy with it!

All sources linked at bottom of post for reference.

I shared the plan we had for Nathan’s office, but never shared a reveal because we never fully finished the room! We took a few basics from the office plan and used them in the playroom; the paint color, the paddles above the fireplace, the rug, and the bookshelves. We loved each of the items and new they would work well in the playroom too.

We have a few “bigger” toys – the table set, the play kitchen, and the tent – I love how cute they all look together in the playroom. It feels like a kids room, without screaming typical bright kid colors. The playroom feels like it flows with the rest of the rooms in our home, which was my ultimate goal!

We do not have an overhead light in this room. To add light in a more kid friendly way I chose to do plug-in wall-mounted sconces vs. a lamp that could easily get knocked over. Plus, the sconce shades are not glass so I’m not too worried about them breaking!

The bookshelves were originally meant to store Nathan’s books and office supplies, but they work wonderfully for simple toy storage! We don’t have a ton of toys (in my opinion), but it honestly sometimes still feels like too much and Leo only plays with maybe 50% of them. Having open toy storage forces me to keep tabs on what we have more often, which I prefer rather than toys getting lost in a cabinet, even though closed storage is nice to have everything out of sight.

The playroom really feels like the perfect play space for Leo, most of his toys in one place and plenty of open floor space to spread out and get creative!
