Favorite Painting Tools - The Adored Abode

I was talking with one of my dear friends who just recently bought a house and she gave me a great idea for a few blog posts – my favorite tools and products I use for house projects. Standing in the hardware store and figuring out which product or tool to buy can be really overwhelming! I’m here to help you out and point you in the direction of the products I love and even some items I wish I had purchased instead of what I am currently have.

Favorite Painting Tools - The Adored Abode

I thought I would start of with my favorite products I use for painting. Painting is really an easy DIY and is one of the quickest most satisfying ways to transform a room, especially if you have the right products to help the process along!

I have painted all but one room in our home (and even repainted some once or twice) in the 3 years we’ve lived here. Along the way I’ve found my favorite products and even some wish list products for myself!

1 | Wooster Paint Brush

This is my absolute favorite paint brush. It is small and efficient. Helps me create a nice clean line when I edge around trim. I have tried so many other paint brushes and keep coming back to this one.

2 | Handy Paint Pail & Liners

This pail is really a life saver when it comes to painting. It’s easy to hold (even for people with smaller hands like myself) and it has a built-in magnetic brush holder that is so convenient! Even more convenient are the liners that you can buy for the pail that make for easy clean up. You can use them as single use, but I like to rinse them out and reuse them as many times as I can.

3 | Purdy Paint Rollers

I love the Purdy rollers. They are good quality and the paint goes on smoothly.

4 | Purdy Roller Frame

I do not have this paint roller frame because I just bought a cheap one at the hardware store that I completely regret buying because I feel like it doesn’t roll easily and I don’t have good control of it. If I was buying a new one this would be the one!

5 | Handy Paint Tray

This is not the paint tray that I have because I bought a cheap one from the hardware store (are you sensing a theme here?), but if I was getting a new one this would 100% be it. Built-in magnetic brush holder for the win! I already love my Handy paint pail and I know I would love the paint tray just as much.

6 | Paint Edger

I personally do not use a paint edger unless I am painting something that is way out of my reach even on a ladder because I much prefer edging with my go to brush, but if you aren’t as comfortable edging with a brush I would get one of these.

7 |Reusable Drop Cloth

I don’t use a drop cloth every time I paint I guess I like err on the risky side, but when I do I love having a reusable one!

8 | Pole Extender

If you don’t have a broom with a removable handle to use a pole extender is nice to have when you need to paint hard to reach areas. It can be attached to your roller or your edger.

9 | Caulk

Whenever you paint it is always a good idea to caulk any seams along the ceiling or trim. It makes everything look so fresh and clean! Caulk is my BFF in our house with its notoriously uneven walls.

10 |Caulk Gun

The caulk gun you use makes a huge difference in how painful or not painful your experience of caulking will be. I am stubborn and keep using my poor quality caulk gun I got from the hardware store (I really should plan ahead and buy these things before the DAY I need them…), but one of these days I will be getting a new one and this is the one I want!

11 | Patch & Primer

Along the same lines of caulking, it is always a good idea to patch any nicks and nail holes before applying a fresh coat of paint. This paint and primer combo is so easy to use! It even comes with a sanding edge attached, but I find I don’t need to sand too much with it.

12 | Painter’s Tape

If you aren’t comfortable edging without painter’s tape or don’t have an edging tool you might want to use painter’s tape. It’s not something I use all the time (really, I rarely use it anymore), but it’s definitely nice to have on hand!

I hope this was helpful, especially if you having any painting projects you are wanting to tackle!
