2022: First Half Plans at a Glance

February 16, 2022

Tudor Style Exterior - The Adored Abode

I realize it’s now halfway through February, but we’ve had a lot going on over here at the Adored Abode, including a career change, a positive COVID test and a resulting vacation reschedule.

We have big plans for 2022, a lot of these plans focus on consistency, showing up and improving each and every day. So expect to hear more from us in 2022 than you did in the second half of 2021. In exciting news, I’ve brought in my first part time help. Nathan will be involved in back end work on the blog and may even show up authoring some posts. We are excited to work more together.

January

The book is closed on January, we didn’t produce much content for the blog, but we were working behind the scenes to finish our main closet project, a year after starting – expect a reveal in February!

February

We are planning the main closet reveal! After more than a year in the making it’s exciting to finally be at this point. Additionally, we plan to restart posting a weekly ‘Weekend Edition’ post that highlights things that we have enjoyed or that have inspired us, in addition to regular weekly blog content.

March

We have a few trips planned that will bookend March – one of which is the rescheduled trip from early February. With Nathan’s career change we have decided to swap our offices. We have two nice, dedicated office spaces, but we plan to update the decor to make them feel a bit more like each of our styles. We’re aiming to plan and share the first office redesign in March!

April

In April we will plan and share our second office redesign! Another area we want to tackle is organization, specifically our basement. We’ve done many renovation projects and with that comes a lot of tools and leftover materials that have overtaken the basement. An organized space to store all things tools and project materials will make us feel so much better. We’d also like to create a play space for Leo in the basement – our basement is unfinished, but with a rug (maybe a mat too?) we think we can create a nice spot to play.

May

In May we want to share what we normally do in spring to make the landscaping around our home pop – we are trying to improve our home’s curb appeal a little bit each year. We like to plant a few new plants each year. In year’s past we focused on the front yard landscaping and this year we are hoping to add more intentional landscaping to the backyard. We have 2 large lilac bushes that we love, but uncontrolled bindweed really took a toll on the plants before we moved into our house and now they hardly bloom anymore.

June

Going along with our basement organization we want to tackle earlier in the year, we plan to share our garage clean out and redesign project. Like the basement, the garage has become an unorganized mess of tools and project leftovers. A few larger kid items that need to be stored (hello stroller and wagon) and it is spurring a need to look at how we have the garage organized in general. We are hoping to use more vertical storage and spruce up the feel of the garage with some fresh paint!

We’re trying to keep projects realistic and balance them with a healthy dose of family time and fun, while still making goals for ourselves to get the things we want done, done! I find it super helpful to write down yearly home goals (big or small), I would do this even without a blog. It’s helpful for accountability and also looking back and reflecting on all of the awesome things you did. Creating home takes time. I don’t think it ever really ends because often times your needs for your home are ever evolving. Looking back and admiring all that’s been done helps me keep things in check when it feels like there is still so much to be done.
