One Room Challenge Week 3: Wallpaper & Built-in Washer/Dryer

October 19, 2017

It’s week 3 of the One Room Challenge. If you are new around here, we will be completing our laundry room (which is also our pantry and what we call our “dog room”) for this 6 week challenge. You can catch up on week 1 here and week 2 here.

This past week I feel like we accomplished a lot, which is great considering we are already half way through this 6 week challenge!

We installed the wallpaper we selected, which you can find here, on one wall (the wall immediately across from the door) to serve as a focal wall and add to the neutral, patterned design we chose.

I was a little deceived when I ordered the wallpaper because it said “removable” in the online description, which I took to mean peel and stick. This was not the case. It was pre-pasted wallpaper, meaning the back of the paper had to be sprayed with water and “booked” before applying it to the wall. Despite this, the installation went pretty quickly and honestly a little smoother than we expected. It took us about 2.5 hours for a 8×13′ wall.

I just love the contrast of the buffalo check and diamond patterned floor! I was worried it may be too much pattern, but I am happy with how the design is coming together. I think once we add add in the cabinets, shelving, and art work the room will have a nice layered fell.

Note: I will write a separate post about installing wallpaper for rookies, because we were definitely rookies, and made rookie mistakes – that deserves a post all on its own.

After installing the wallpaper we moved on to building a “box” around where the stacked washer and dryer would go, to give it a built-in look.

Like the wallpaper, I will have a separate post detailing how we built this (and the shelves we have yet to build), but here is a sneak peak for now.

Below is the list of items we plan to complete in the next 3 short weeks:

  • Install cabinets (around washer/dryer & on opposite wall for pantry)
  • Add backsplash (of some sort?) above laundry counter next to washer/dryer
  • Install built-in dog feeding station
  • Install open shelving above pantry cabinets/counter
  • Add window treatment
  • Create organized pantry storage
  • Hang artwork

As a reminder, here is the design board I created for the space, I am so excited to watch it come to life!

That’s where we are, friends! I am so glad you are following along. Be sure to check out the rest of the ORC participates here!

      1. Thank you so much! I actually painted over our existing tile with a stencil.
