September 28, 2017

Welcome to The Friday 5 for this week where I share interior design ideas,  home decor inspiration, DIY, and organization tips and tricks… and really anything else as it comes to mind!

ONE

Katie from Halfway Wholeistic shared a very inspiring, simple fall home tour. Her style is simple, clean, and beautiful. I especially love how she utilized artwork and natural elements to bring fall into her home. The small piece of artwork on the shelf is gorgeous!

TWO

Fall finally feels like it has arrived at least for today in the KC area. I added some fall touches to our front porch. Nathan picked out the yellow mums, the man really does love his bright colors. They make me smile every time I look at them because. I went with a layered rug look with a natural fiber rug on top of a cotton flat weave rug. I bought this cute buffalo check rug from Amazon, it’s not an outdoor rug, but our porch is covered so it doesn’t get too much weather exposure. I did fold the bottom edge of the rug under when I laid it on porch because the top and bottom pattern were not even… and it bothered me just a little bit.  This natural fiber rug is similar to the one we have (ours is old and I can’t find it online anymore).

THREE

This Chipotle Black Bean Tortilla Soup by the Minimalist Baker is on our list of things to make this weekend! We’ve never tried this recipe before, but it sounds delicious. Now that we have fall temps I want warm chili and soup all the time.

FOUR

West Elm is having their Friends & Family sale right now (20% off your entire purchase!), which ends tomorrow. If there is something you’ve been wanting from West Elm now is the time to get it. This nailhead trim storage bench I have been eyeing is on super sale right now, plus an additional 20% off! It’s in my shopping cart already.

FIVE

On a more personal, heavier note, the topic of feeling rejected, lonely, and uninvited, especially amidst the seemingly “perfect” lives that are portrayed on social media, has been on my mind a lot lately. It’s hard not to feel left out or lonely and then that leads to self-doubt and discouragement. I personally have experienced this and was recently talking about this with a sweet friend of mind, who said she has experienced it as well. She mentioned was reading a book called Uninvited. She said it was really eye-opening and she had learned a lot from it. I plan on reading it soon and thought I would share. This is the first paragraph from the overview of the book: “The enemy wants us to feel rejected . . . left out, lonely, and less than. When we allow him to speak lies through our rejection, he pickpockets our purpose. Cripples our courage. Dismantles our dreams. And blinds us to the beauty of Christ’s powerful love”.

Have a great weekend, friends!
